World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Season of Consistency

Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Statistics

Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in prize money.

She garnered nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Recipients

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
