The Actress States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Lawrence
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, public figures have no real impact in any way on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has previously been open about voting for both conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was voting against her own rights as a woman.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I feel she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to protect abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the electoral decisions was underscored by his election win.
“This upcoming term feels different,” commented the actress of his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the film in the film festival, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
She aimed to shift anger about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration signed by numerous Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. While the director has rejected the plot being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, the actress shared that she connected with parts of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, not long after shooting ended.
“There was concern about my child,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
