Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
