Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I won't manage another team in England. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. Jota died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
