Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
