Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Road Accident
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, officials in Lagos announced on late Wednesday. The 36-year-old was caught in a vehicular crash in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his management team confirmed on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to “recuperate at home”.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends who passed away as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
Honoring the Deceased
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two dear friends.”
His release from the hospital follows the sports world shared sympathy for the star in the wake of the heartbreaking incident.
